Goldfield, Nevada

The week ended good, and so we decided to do a road trip to Goldfield, Nevada, one of our favorite places.

Goldfield is a very small town with a rich rich history that is ripe for growth and opportunity for the right brand.  My spouse and I agree that Goldfield’s strategic location between Las Vegas and Tonopah, and the fact that ALL highway traffic MUST go through its downtown is a gem.  Tonopah is a half hour north & Beatty, the next town to the south is an hour away. Hello McDonalds opportunity? Hello Digital Mobile Broadband opportunity? There are other opportunities there.  From our visit there a year ago, during Goldfield Days, the residents we talked to want the town to grow, and there are people busy restoring the historic downtown area, but there are apparently this year, one or two people, who don’t live there but bought property on the cheap, who don’t want the town to be noticed or be prosperous.  For example, we met a couple who live south of Las Vegas, who have bought nine properties in Goldfield, who told us they never tell anyone about the town because they don’t want to deal with zoning laws or anyone “interferring” with their plans.  They basically dropped major hints that people of Goldfield like the freedom to do “whatever”, away from public notice.  In my view, this ran contrary to everything Goldfield, and the dozens of people we had met up to that point, stood for.  The only people I think that would condemn a town to near death are people interested in not having law enforcement helicopters flying over their property while they are engaged in nefarious “whatever” reasons.  I wonder if those are the same people that put the “Trespassers Will Be Shot” signs on the fortress we saw at one end of town?

At any rate, we decided to drive through town with our webcam rolling and take a video of what life is like in Goldfield.  We think the town is ripe for change. Google the “Goldfield Hotel”. Its been shuttered for years! If that reopens, business will boom. The current owner is doing NOTHING with it!  We’ve visited four times in the last three years, and for all its rich history as the finest hotel of its time west of the Rockies, it sits closed, and sadly, this year we found someone had sprayed graffitti on one corner.

Part of the video we recorded of Goldfield is below for your enjoyment:

I’m Jenni, from the Sacramento county area of California.  I am 12 classes away from finishing my BSIT – Network Management program at a university (NOT University of Phoenix) that I attend via distance learning (which takes far more discipline then just going there, but is way cheaper then spending the gas), and 8 classes away from completing my BSTOWS (Bachelor of Science in Taking Over The World Strategies).  My current job is being a full time student, however I am starting to look at ideas for taking over the world as soon as I graduate.  But failing that, I will be re-entering the job market looking for employment doing something with computer networks.  I am a team leader, and have lead 17 successful group projects thus far in my classes and have been a member of six more, in classes that have had group projects to complete.  Yes, I am quite the Aries, and ENFJ personality type as measured by the Myers-Brigg personality test.
